Louis & Irene – Solar Comfort at Home

A better way to enjoy island life

Could you briefly introduce yourselves?
“Every day still feels like a holiday here.” Louis and Irene have been living on Bonaire for 9 years with great pleasure. As retired and lovers of the good life, they wanted to increase their comfort and be more conscious about their energy use.

Why did you choose a solar system?
“We already had ten solar panels, but we wanted a system with a battery to handle blackouts. The energy bill, the environment, and the power interruptions were the deciding factors.”

Living the Vacation Life — Powered by the Sun

How did people react to the solar panels?
The installation caught the attention of neighbors: “Several people came by out of curiosity — everyone reacted enthusiastically.”

Why did you choose Blue Sky Solar?
They heard about Blue Sky Solar Bonaire through a neighbor. “After our first conversation with Remco, we immediately had a good feeling. The fact that he lives on the same street gave us extra confidence.”

Are you already saving on your energy bill?
Since the installation, Louis and Irene only pay the fixed monthly fee.

How did you experience the process from quote to installation?
“The process went smoothly, everything was arranged within a few weeks,” they say.

How is the system performing so far?
“What we really notice is the increased comfort. We now use the air conditioning during the day without worries. That improves our quality of life and also helps with a faster payback.”

Would you recommend Blue Sky Solar to others?
“We already do! We’re very satisfied and have shown the system to several neighbors. We highly recommend Blue Sky Solar.”

Goodbye blackouts, hello control

Ferry, could you briefly introduce yourself?
I’m Ferry Maat, former DJ. I spent over 50 years on the radio and am known for the Soulshow. Now I’m retired, but I’m still actively involved in radio.

Why did you choose a solar system?
I’d been frustrated with the local utility (WEB) for years — low water pressure, frequent outages, and power spikes that damaged my equipment. If a power pole was knocked over, we’d sometimes be without power for six hours. I had enough.

Independence with Solar Power – Ferry Maat’s Story

How did people around you react to the solar panels?
People are curious and interested in the system, and I enjoy talking about it.

Why did you choose Blue Sky Solar?
I requested several quotes. Blue Sky Solar was the most expensive, but also the most complete. I also heard positive feedback about the quality of your equipment compared to others.

Are you already saving on your energy bill?
I now pay just a few dollars per month, whereas it used to be $350. I still pay a fixed fee to the WEB, but I don’t actually need their electricity anymore. Of course, I made a big investment, which I likely won’t earn back — but I don’t mind. What I gained is independence.

How was the process from quote to installation?
It took a while before the installation could be scheduled (about two months), but once the team started, everything was finished in just two days. I was amazed by the speed.

How is the system performing so far?
I’ve been using the system for five months now and it’s working great. It’s also a fun gadget — I can monitor my energy use closely and I’ve become much more aware. For example, I found out my boiler uses a lot of power. The battery is usually still 20% full in the morning, and by 2 PM it’s fully recharged.

Would you recommend Blue Sky Solar to others?
I’m very happy with it and definitely recommend it — I already have. My neighbor recently switched to solar too. And I like how it looks. It’s almost like Cape Canaveral in my shed! I love it. I’m interested in tech, even though I don’t know much about it. Luckily, I have black roof tiles, so the panels blend in nicely. I don’t like how panels usually look on rooftops.
